Shortly before 9 a.m. on Nov. 28, Louisiana State Police Troop D received a report of a 2023 Jeep Cherokee traveling west on Interstate 10, linked to a multi-jurisdictional theft case. While searching for the vehicle, a trooper spotted it traveling westbound on I-10 near Iowa.

As the Trooper followed and awaited additional units, the suspect vehicle continued onto I-210 before exiting onto US Hwy 90. Troopers, along with officers from the Lake Charles Police Department, attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the parking lot of a nearby convenience store. The driver, later identified as 27-year-old Shanan P. McCoy Jr. of Texas, refused to stop and struck a fully marked LSP unit. McCoy and two passengers then attempted to flee on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, Troopers apprehended McCoy. No officers were injured during the encounter.
