Guy Weston Fanguy, 77, passed away at 1:20 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, 2024 at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital with wife, Judy, and daughter, Kelly, by his side.
Mr. Fanguy was born on Dec. 26, 1946 to Noma and Wayne Fanguy in Lake Charles. He was a 1964 graduate of Marion High School where he ran track and played football, but his passion was playing the clarinet and directing the band. Mr. Fanguy was the recipient of the John Philips Sousa Award and earned a scholarship to McNeese State University. He soon realized that college was not for him, so he began a career with Southern Pacific Railroad.
He met and married the love of his life, Judy Kelly, and they had one daughter, Kelly Sherrie, who was the apple of his eye. Mr. Fanguy moved his family to New Orleans where they met a group of friends that loved to parade and laissez le bons temps rouler. Once he retired, they moved back to Lake Charles and Judy opened a gift shop in the Lake Charles airport, and of course, Guy was her number one employee. They also joined the Krewe de la Famille and in 1998 he was the king and continued to see himself as “king” there on out.
Mr. Fanguy took great pride in maintaining his property and home and found great joy in riding his zero turn lawnmower.
He was preceded in death by his beloved Auntie Hilda O’Neil and his parents.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Kohler and his nurses and staff for being so kind and helpful to them.
Visitation will begin in Johnson Funeral Home on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024 from 1 p.m. until leaving at 2 p.m. to process to Prien Memorial Park for a graveside service.
