Pair of Cowboys honored

While the injury that forced Micah Davey to miss four games kept the linebacker off the midseason honors lists, two other Cowboys made it.

Defensive back Yusef Leak and long snapper Jovoni Borbon were named to the FCS Mid-Season All-American team by Phil Steel Tuesday. Both players were selected to the fourth team.

Davey, who returned last week against Incarnate Word, was on the preseason first team.

Leak is a transfer from St. Thomas University in Minnesota and is in his first season with McNeese State. He leads the Cowboys in pass break-ups with seven, good for second in the Southland Conference.

“One of the reasons I came to McNeese was to test myself on this level,” Leak said earlier this season.

He has also recorded 30 tackles and forced and recovered a fumble. His lone interception came last weekend against Incarnate Word deep in McNeese territory.

Borbon is a graduate transfer from SMU who has been one of the most consistent long snappers on the FCS level this season. He snaps on all kicks for the Cowboys and has made four tackles on punts.
