No. 3 Bulldogs blast Golden Knights

LONGVILLE — Jennings imposed its will up front on both sides of the ball in a dominating 55-0 road at South Beauregard Friday night.

The offensive line made plenty of room for the offense to break 50 points for the second consecutive week and total 453 yards on 42 plays, averaging more than 10 yards a play.

“It’s something we’ve seen our line all year,” Jennings head coach Bret Fuselier said. “It’s just good to see, seeing where we were last year and where we are this year.

“It’s a great group of kids who really took to the hard work and our offense is seeing the results in the rushing yards and the scoring because of our offensive line.”

The Bulldogs’ (6-1, 2-0), ranked No. 3 in Class 3A, defense completely shut down the Golden Knights’ high-powered offense, holding them to a season-low 118 yards of total offense. They kept quarterback Christian Wold on the run frequently sacking him three times (DeJohn Zeno, Jamell Davis, Davien Edwards), which mostly kept South Beauregard out of its passing game.

“A lot of three and outs tonight and it goes back to the d-line for controlling the line of scrimmage,” Fuselier said. “And really getting off the field on third down against a South Beauregard team that is really good offensively.

“Their tempo is something that you try to simulate in practice, but it’s hard to do. I was proud of our kids for coming out and handling that tempo very well. And kudos to South Beauregard because they’re a good football team. Don’t get me wrong, but I’m proud of our kids for the way we handled tonight.”

Wold started the game averaging more than 100 rushing yards a game but was held to 48 yards on 22 carries.

South Beauregard didn’t cross midfield until its fifth drive in the closing seconds of the first quarter and never reached the red zone after scoring 40-plus in its previous two games.

Jennings running back ReJohn Zeno scored five touchdowns for the fifth consecutive week. He scored on runs of 36, 11, 63, 29 and 43 yards. He topped 200 yards for the first time this season at 217 on 12 carries and had one reception for 33 yards.

“He’s a great kid,” Zeno said. “That’s the thing, you pull for that kid because he’s such a hard worker and such a great kid.

“We have a team full of those guys, so I’m proud of him. But he’ll tell you, it goes to his o-line and the job they did. But I couldn’t be happier for a great kid. Yeah, that’ll work.”

Jennings scored 28 points in the first quarter on 202 yards in 13 plays, while South Beauregard (5-2, 0-1) netted just 48 yards on 22 plays.
