A Venture Global Calcasieu Pass spokesperson emailed the American Press after reading the Tuesday story about complaints from a local resident regarding flaring and Calcasieu Pass’ request for emissions increases.

“We have been, and remain in full compliance with annual permit emissions limits, including with respect to flaring,” Jess Szymanski, Venture Global spokesperson, stated.

The company is seeking an increase in emissions from the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality. Its last report to LDEQ reflects a 98 percent reduction in deviations compared to the report for the first half of 2022, the email states.

“As part of the federally regulated Title V & Prevention of Significant Deterioration Programs, Calcasieu Pass is required to renew its Title V permit every five years. As part of that process, Calcasieu Pass requested modifications to the permits and, in support of its application, performed air dispersion modeling.

“The emissions increases Calcasieu Pass requested are to more accurately reflect the facility’s design and operating experience since initial startup, which is a common feature for greenfield facilities during a number of operating scenarios and short-term events such as maintenance activities, she said.

Requested revisions comply with underlying federal and state control regulations and the requested changes are fully compliant with the National Ambient Air Quality Standards, according to the email.

The Venture Global company spokesperson said it never received an email with questions from the American Press as reported.

“The misinformation pushed by a small handful of highly-paid individuals funded by out-of-state activist organizations is a continuation of their desperate effort to mislead the public about Venture Global and the entire U.S. LNG industry,” Szymanski stated. “Regardless of their false claims to intentionally mislead the public and further their own agenda, the facts show we remain in full compliance with our annual emissions limits.”

John Allaire, one of the residents interviewed said, “I am not paid and have never been paid by anyone or any organization for the work I perform related to my opposition to LNG exports or our domestic natural resources to the highest overseas bidders.”
