A Zachary bicyclist has died from injuries he sustained when his bicycle was struck from behind on Carlyss Drive in Sulphur.
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Kayla Vincent said Austin Herring, 29, was riding his bicycle southbound at about 10 p.m. Sept. 25 on Carlyss Drive near the shoulder. The driver of a truck, who was also traveling south, hit Herring’s bicycle from behind.
Vincent said Herring’s bicycle had no lights.
Herring was airlifted to a hospital out of town.
“Over the weekend Herring died, likely from injuries sustained in the accident,” Vincent said.
The coroner will determine cause of death.
The investigation is continuing, impairment is not believed to be a factor, Vincent said.
