A Lake Charles man who told 911 dispatchers Wednesday night that he had just shot his neighbor has been charged with second-degree murder.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kayla Vincent said at about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, deputies were dispatched to a residence on Bennie Lane in reference to a shooting.

Prior to deputies arrival, the 911 caller — later identified as 26-year-old Christian K. Bourriague — told dispatchers he shot his neighbor, David K. Fife, 56, after he charged at him in his driveway.

Vincent said when deputies arrived, they located Fife outside deceased, suffering from multiple apparent gunshot wounds.

She said detectives were advised Bourriague and Fife were involved in a verbal altercation at which time Fife grabbed a weapon and began walking toward Bourriague, who was in possession of a handgun.

“Fife put his weapon down but continued to approach Bourriague, at which time Bourriague shot Fife,” Vincent said.

The investigation is continuing.  The coroner will determine cause of death.

Det. Julius Frazier is the lead investigator on this case.
