Jennings police are investigating after a female bicyclist was killed in a hit-and-run accident late Tuesday near Interstate 10 and La. 26.

“It is believed to have happened sometime last night near the I-10 Service Road,” Police Chief Danny Semmes said.

The victim’s body was discovered in a ditch on the Service Road near the Louisiana Oil and Gas Park around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday by construction workers.

The victim is a 28-year-old local female, according to Semmes. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending further investigation and notification of the next of kin.

Investigation into the incident remains ongoing, he said.
