Shirley Evelyn Simon, 88, crossed over to be with the Lord on Sept. 1, 2024 at her home in Longville La. surrounded by her family. She was born on Nov. 19, 1935 in Johnson Bayou.
Shirley was a homemaker, and was a loving and devoted wife to her husband Jessie, for nearly 69 years. She adored her children, grandchildren, and extended family, treasuring the time that she spent with them. She was a hard-working country woman who loved to cook, bake, and keep house. She also liked canning homegrown fruits and vegetables, and tending to her chickens. She enjoyed flower gardening, and watching the birds on her feeder from the kitchen window.
But however much she loved family and friends, her greatest love was for that of her Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a true prayer warrior who had no qualms about telling anyone who would listen, just what God had done for her and just how much He meant to her. She deeply loved her brothers and sisters in Christ, and was a most generous giver to the cause of spreading the gospel and to other charities.
She is survived by her loving husband, Jessie Simon Sr.; two children, Tina Metcalf (David), and Jessie Simon Jr. (Belinda); brother, Curtis Trahan (Loretta); 11 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Uriah and Hattie Trahan; a son, Roy Jones; four brothers, Willie Trahan, Aaron Trahan, Alvin Trahan, and Warren Trahan; and four sisters, Sadie Mae Trahan, Gladys Ennis, Nathalie Hebert, and Lillie Mae Ducote.
The Simon family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Brighton Bridge Hospice for the care and compassion extended to Shirley during her long illness.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home in Sulphur with Pastor Arvin Harrell officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024 at the funeral home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will resume on Sunday at 12 p.m. until time of the service. Burial will be held at Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery in Longville, La. following the service.
In lieu of giving flowers, the family requests that any donations be made instead to the American Bible Society.
