A Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy was dragged about 40 feet while an Iowa, La., man attempted to flee the scene of a traffic investigation.
Spokesperson Kayla Vincent said deputies were investigating a car in the roadway that was blocking the southbound lane near 6th Avenue and 3rd Street at about 7 p.m. Friday night when the incident happened.
Vincent when deputies arrived, the car was unoccupied but they could see a man — later identified as Sincere Z. Buckley, 18 — walking from a residence on 6th Avenue.
“Buckley entered the driver seat of the car and locked the door, refusing to unlock the door for deputies,” Vincent said. “Deputies opened the back door of the car in an attempt to remove Buckley. After a brief struggle the driver’s door opened, at which time Buckley turned the car on and drove away, dragging one of the deputies approximately 40 feet, before fleeing the scene.”
The deputy was transported to a local hospital suffering a broken arm and abrasions from the incident.
Vincent said later Friday night, the Lake Charles Police Department received a call on 6th Street in reference to Buckley hiding behind homes in the area.
“When LCPD officers attempted to make contact with Buckley, he fled on foot, but was quickly apprehended,” Vincent said.
Buckley was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with obstructing a public passage; aggravated second-degree battery; and resisting a police officer with force or violence.
Judge Tony Fazzio set his bond at $35,100.
