SULPHUR — Washington-Marion rallied from a rough start to beat Vinton 22-14 at the Paradice Grill Jamboree on Friday at Matt Walker Memorial Stadium.

The Charging Indians scored on their final two drives of the game after their first two ended in turnovers.

Stuck on their 26-yard line on third down, quarterback Monte Farmer found Craig Tillman, who turned the play into a 74-yard touchdown with 6:41 left in the game. Ashton Savoie’s two-point conversion run tied the game at 14-14.

W-M blocked a punt on Vinton’s next possession to set up a short field, and Duhon scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 1-yard run and threw a pass to Farmer for the conversion and 22-14 lead.

Farmer completed 10 of 13 passes for 177 yards.

Vinton started on fire when junior running back Jaidon Briggs sprinted 72 yards to the end zone on the first play from scrimmage. Briggs also recovered a W-M fumble, which turned into a 1-yard run for quarterback Jerryckson Gonzalez and a 14-0 lead. Briggs ran for 104 yards on 12 carries.

Vinton sophomore Dallin Jones intercepted Farmer with 3:56 left in the first half, but the Lions couldn’t turn it into points. Their next three drives ended on a fumble and two punts.

The game ended with 50 seconds left when Vinton lineman Logan Granger was injured and was taken off the field on a stretcher. He did give a thumbs-up to the crowd on his way out. No updates were available on his condition.
