DeQuincy, Barbe, Sulphur pick up wins at Paradise Grill Jamboree

DeQuincy won a defensive battle in the opener Thursday at the Paradise Grill Jamboree at Sulphur High School’s Matt Walker Memorial Stadium.

Neither team topped 150 yards of total offense in two 12-minute halves. South Beauregard held DeQuincy to 87 total yards and forced a turnover, an interception by Micah Dupree, but found themselves in a 14-0 hole at halftime.

DeQuincy went 77 yards on its first possession and took a 7-0 lead on a 1-yard run by Hayz Hext.

After forcing the Golden Knights to punt a second time, DeQuincy went 80 yards in 10 plays. Carson Rainwater found Koby Pool for a 17-yard score and a 14-0 lead.

After four punts, South Beauregard finally put together a scoring drive late in the second half after stopping the Tigers’ at their 27-yard line. Christian Wold scored on a five-yard quarterback keeper.

Wyatt Lavergne led the Tigers on both sides of the ball. He had 10 carries for 74 yards and a game-high eight tackles.

Barbe 20

DeRidder 0

Barbe had balanced scoring Thursday at the Paradise Grill Jamobree and beat DeRidder 20-0, scoring 10 points in each half.

Sophomore quarterback Jelandon Gray threw two touchdowns to Luke Leger and Aaron Bellard and completed 9 of 11 passes for 147 yards.

Jace Vasquez connected on field goals of 30 and 35 yards.

Sulphur 27

LaGrange 0

For the second consecutive year, the Sulphur Tors shut out the LaGrange Gators in their last tune-up before the regular season.

Sulphur won 27-0 as senior defensive lineman Jay Michael Stelly (6 tackles, 2 sacks) and senior linebacker Williams Gunter (8 solo tackles) combined for 14 tackles.

The Tors ground game was strong, averaging nearly eight yards a carry as the trio of Tyler Joubert, Davion Hall and Luke Clark combined for 160 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries.

Quarterback Brodie Depriest completed 3 of 4 passes for 70 yards, including a 16-yard touchdown pass to LSU commitment J.D. Lafleur.
