Brenda Ellen Freund

Brenda Ellen Freund, born Feb. 12, 1952, in Lake Charles, La., passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Aug. 4, 2024, in Dallas, Texas. Brenda was the cherished daughter of the late Troy A. Freund and Dorothy Hausler Freund, and the beloved sister of Carol Freund Ward, of Crownsville, Md. She was the devoted mother and mother-in-law of Graham Robbins Weedon and Jaqueline Weedon, respectively, and a loving grandmother to Caroline Weedon, all three of Mckinney, Texas. Brenda is preceded in death by her late husband, Michael Bourgeois, also originally from Lake Charles.
Brenda pursued her passion for education at McNeese State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education, and later, Houston Baptist University, where she earned a Masters in Special Education. She dedicated over 30 years of her life to teaching at various high schools in the Houston area, touching the lives of countless students with her kindness and unwavering commitment to their success.
A lifelong member of the Methodist Church, Brenda was deeply rooted in her faith, finding strength and community in her church family. She participated in numerous Bible studies like Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) and loved to sing in the church choir.
After moving to McKinney, she became an active member of the local community, forging many close friendships through her involvement in the service sorority Phihlanthropic Education Organization (PEO), the Newcomers Club of McKinney, the Mckinney Methodist church, and her beloved neighborhood, Tucker Hill, where her son’s family also resides.
Brenda’s warmth, generosity, and love of life endeared her to all who knew her. She will be remembered for her dedication to her family, her students, and her friends. She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and service that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
A memorial service to celebrate Brenda’s life will be held at First Methodist Church of Rosenberg, Texas on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider making a donation to the fight against Cancer and/or the T. Boone Pickens Faith Presbyterian Hospice.
