A pedestrian was killed in a single-vehicle crash Friday afternoon on La. 372, just south of Tyler Road in Allen Parish.

Louisiana State Police Trooper First Class Matt Gaspard said the crash ultimately claimed the life of 21-year-old Michael Hicks of Mexico, Mo.

The preliminary investigation revealed Hicks was walking west across La. 372 while a 2011 Toyota Corolla was traveling southbound.

“For reasons still under investigation, Hicks, who was wearing dark clothing, stepped into the path of the Corolla,” Gaspard said. “Despite evasive maneuvers by the driver of the Toyota, the car’s front bumper struck Hicks.”

Hicks was transported to a local hospital by ambulance where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Toyota was properly restrained and received no injuries.

Standard toxicology samples were collected and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
