Homer “Catline” Dale Myers Sr.

Homer Dale “Catline” Myers Sr., 92, of Lake Charles, passed away Friday, Aug. 9, 2024, at a local care facility. A native of Byars, Okla. Homer was born on June 27, 1932, to Thomas Myers and Vesta Laffoon. Homer started working in the oilfield after graduating from high school in Cotulla, Texas. His career included working on drilling rigs in south Texas, offshore Louisiana, and all around the world.

He and his loving wife, Shirley, traveled the world while he worked as a drilling supervisor for Continental Oil Company. Overseas assignments included Jakarta, Indonesia; Cairo, Egypt; Dubai, U.A.E; Qatar, Nigeria, and Somalia. Their travels included Scotland, Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Australia, and China. 

Homer loved the game of golf and was fortunate enough to play courses all over the world. Another passion of his was woodworking. He will be remembered for all his holiday yard decorations, birdhouses, and bird feeders.

Although he and Shirley loved traveling the world, their heart was in the Texas Hill Country. They always returned from overseas to their second home in Leakey, Texas on the Frio River. Many summers were spent camping with their children, grandchildren, and friends at Garner State Park.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Dale Myers (Paula), and Tammy Newby; brother, Bill Myers; sister, Terry McNeal; grandchildren, Christopher Myers (Jennifer), Rachel Stambaugh (Sean), Tod Everage (Llewellyn), Karen Langham (Joshua), Cole Everage (Amanda), Lindsey LeBlanc (Blake), Graeme Newby (Randi Kay), Matthew Newby (Ashlea), Samantha Houston (Matt) and 24 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley Myers, and son, Dwight Myers.

The family would like to thank everyone at the Guardian Healthcare Rehabilitation facility and Brighton Bridge Hospice for all the care they provided.

A time of gathering for family and friends will be Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m., at Johnson Funeral Home, 4321 Lake St. Lake Charles, LA 70605. The family has entrusted cremation arrangements to Johnson Funeral Home.
