Damary Helia Sardina-Edmonds of Sulphur, La. passed at the age of 80 on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024. She was born to her late parents, Helion and Genoveva Sardina on Feb. 13, 1944, in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba. At age 16, she fled Cuba with her family to claim political asylum in the United States. After many years of moving around the world, she and her family settled in Sulphur, La. in 1982. It is here where she finally called a location her home. She loved Sulphur and all the friends she made. Sardina (as she was called) had many hats she wore including daughter, mother, wife, educator for Calcasieu Parish Schools for 24 years, role-model (on how to show kindness, love wholeheartedly and forgive), avid college football fan and friend. Damary was the light and love to all she encountered. Damary was beautiful inside and out. She truly loved life and had a positive outlook on life and was strong with her faith even with all of her struggles. Heaven has gained a beautiful soul.
She is survived by her children, Damarys Gonzalez-Rodiles of Houston, Texas, Jorge Gonzalez-Rodiles (Nicole) of Frisco, Texas, Alex Valentin Gonzalez-Rodiles of Klamath Falls, Ore.; grandchildren, Damaris America “Meca” Kibodeaux, Kevin Alexander Atkins-Rodiles, Aiden John Gonzalez-Rodiles and Vanesa Marie Gonzalez-Rodiles.
Damary is preceded in death by her husband, James Doyle Edmonds, III.
