Camy Sue Fontenot Royer

Camy Sue Fontenot Royer was born Dec. 12, 1940, and passed away Aug. 10, 2024, at the age of 83, surrounded by her family.

Camy was raised in Kinder, La. before she married her husband, George Royer, in 1957 and moved to DeQuincy. She was a member of the Perkins Community and was a faithful member of The Pentecostal Church of DeQuincy where she taught Sunday School for many years. Camy retired from Jefferson Smurfitt Boxboard Company, and had previously worked for DeQuincy Memorial Hospital, Jim Miller Livestock and M&J Chevrolet. She was also a substitute teacher for the DeQuincy schools. She was a wonderful seamstress, collected baseball cards, and enjoyed cooking for her family. Her favorite pastime was spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.

Camy is survived by her  daughters, Jolene Constance Gibbs, and husband ,Jeff, Peggy Green, and husband, J.L., Cheryl Inboden, and husband, Eric; six grandchildren, Amy Jo Spence, Sara Barrow, and husband, Gaston “Boogie”, Tori Walker, and husband, Johnathon, Joey Green, Gerrett Inboden, and wife, Krisha and Shane Inboden; seven great-grandchildren. Camy is survived by sisters, Shirley Grove of DeQuincy and Gaynell Neal of Carthage, Texas; brothers, Steven Fontenot, and wife, Carolyn of Oberlin and Hamon Fontenot, and wife, Clara of Kinder, and sister-in-law, Johnnie Justice of Sulphur, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Camy is preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, George T. Royer; parents, Dempsey and Pearl Fontenot; brother, J.D. Fontenot; mother and father-in-law, Lilly “Poe” and Willis Royer.

The family would like to thank the High Hope Care Center, Brighton Bridge Hospice, and her special friend and roommate, Ella Dean Gilland, for their care and concern during her illness.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 15, 2024, at The Pentecostal Church of DeQuincy. Visitation will continue Friday, Aug. 16, 2024, from 11 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 1 p.m., at The Pentecostal Church of DeQuincy. Pastor Wayne Neyland, the Rev. Russell Lormand, and the Rev. Johnathon Walker will be officiating. Interment will follow at Royer Cemetery, Sulphur, La.
