Former Barbe High School pitcher Landon Victorian’s future is still in the Southeastern Conference, just not Baton Rouge.

Victorian, one of the top-rated pitchers in the 2024 class announced Friday on social media, that he had committed to the Oklahoma Sooners, where former McNeese State head coach Todd Butler (2001-2003) is associate coach and recruiting coordinator.

The Sooners went 40-21 in 2023 and were stunned by Connecticut in the NCAA Norman (Okla.) Regional.

Victorian originally signed with LSU in November of last year, a month before an incident at Barbe led to his eventual expulsion. According to media reports, the expulsion was a result of Victorian exposing a knife during a meeting with an assistant coach.

LSU was silent about the situation.

Victorian is playing for the Green Bay Rockers (Wisconsin) in the Northwoods League, a summer baseball wood-bat league. Against other graduated high school seniors and college players, Victorian is 1-0 in five starts with 25 strikeouts and 12 walks in 172/3 innings. He has a 1.53 earned run average.

While he didn’t play his senior year at Barbe, Victorian had a spectacular junior season in 2023. He was the Bucs’ ace on their 39-1 state championship team, going 8-0 with 80 strikeouts in 50 innings and a 0.98 ERA. In his final game in a Bucs uniform, Victorian held Sulphur to three hits over 6 2/3 innings in a 5-1 win in the Nonselect Division I semifinals.
