The Cameron Lions Club is set to catch a crowd with its 20th Annual Cameron Fishing Festival line up Friday, August 2 and Saturday, August 3 at the Lighthouse Bend Complex, 189 Davis Road, Cameron. (Offshore fishing begins at 12:01 p.m. Thursday, August 1.)    

Combine an offshore and bay fishing tournament with a blessing of the fleet for private and commercial boats, live auction, great musical talent, satisfying local food, corn hole tournament and special kids’ activities including crab race, fairytale characters and waterslide  – and the hook is set.

The bay fishing begins at 12:01 a.m., and has an adult and junior category. Weigh station opens at 3 p.m.. Festival gates open at 4 p.m. LeRoy Thomas takes the stage and the Blessing of the Fleet happens at 6 p.m. Layne Touchet entertains at 8:30 p.m. and the festival closes Friday at 10 p.m.

Festival gates open at 11 a.m. on Saturday and close at 10 p.m; cornhole tournament, 1 p.m.; Backroads Band, 1:30 p.m., weigh station opens at 2 p.m.; Wands and Whimsy Fairytale Characters, 2:30 p.m.; Children’s Crab Races, 4 p.m.; Geno Delafose & French Rockin’ Boogie, 4:30 p.m.; live auction and fishing awards, 7 p.m.; and Best Young Band at 8 p.m.

Friday gate fee is $10. Saturday gate fee is $15. The two-day pass is $20. Children 12 and under are free.

With a history of helping dating back to 1994, The Cameron Lions Club continues to serve the needs of the community. In the last five years, the Club has given $671,870 to International and Louisiana Lions Club endeavors, disaster/crisis, special needs children, schools and youth support, memorial donations and civic events.
