Nellie Joyce Partin

Nellie Joyce Partin, 85, of Lake Charles, La. left this earth on July 20, 2024, as Jesus and his angels welcomed her home. 

Nellie was born on Nov. 25, 1938, in Sulphur, La. to Guy and Lucille Broussard.  She was the youngest and only girl among her four brothers, which instilled in her a spirit of resilience and determination from a young age. 

Nellie pursued many interests throughout her life including avid golfing, beautiful cross-stitching, knitting and a passion for classical music. She enjoyed challenging herself with daily crossword puzzles. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was a devout follower of Christ.

She attended and graduated from Sulphur High School in 1957, where she was appointed Head Major of the Royal Clippers.  After graduation, Nellie embarked on a solo journey across the country to California, where she resided for two years with her brother and his wife and worked as a secretary at a law firm. Her career achievements included serving as an executive secretary at PPG and a legal secretary at Stockwell Sievert Law Firm.  

In 1983, Nellie married her high school sweetheart, Col. Tommy Partin, and joined him during his service in Holland with NATO US Army.  Upon returning from Holland, Tommy and Nellie moved back to Lake Charles, La. and enjoyed a life filled with family and friends.  They were active members of Moss Bluff Baptist Church and enjoyed traveling together.  In 2012, they moved to Georgia and again established a life surrounded by friends, family and an active life at First Redeemer Church in Cumming.  After Tommy’s passing in 2023, Nellie relocated to Lake Charles where she was welcomed at The Veranda with open arms from new and old friends alike.  

Nellie will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Denise Wilkinson (Sam); son, Kevin Heath (Annette); bonus daughters, Julie Partin Adams, Deborah DeBartola (Chip), Linda Coyle (Tim), brother, Percy Broussard; 13 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.  She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who cherished her deeply.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; Col. Tommy Partin; daughter, Kellie Monceaux; her brothers, Herman “Bruce” Broussard (Norma), Donald Broussard (Lorraine), and Carl Broussard (Shirlene), and sister-in-law, Loretta Broussard.  

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024, starting at 12 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, 1800 Country Club Dr. Lake Charles, LA 70605 followed by a Memorial Service at 2 p.m.  Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home. Her interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery with her beloved husband, Colonel (Ret.) Tommy M. Partin.
