Dodgers choose Myers, former Jennings standout drafted in 9th round

On Monday, former Jennings High School standout Kole Myers became the second Southwest Louisiana product taken in the 2024 MLB Amateur Draft.

Myers, a 6-1, 105-pound, all-Sunbelt Conference second-team center fielder at Troy University this season, was picked in the ninth round by the Los Angeles Dodgers, 280th overall.

SBC Player of the Year and UL-Lafayette shortstop Kyle DeBarge was taken in the first round on Sunday by the Minnesota Twins with the 33rd overall pick.

In his final season at Troy, Myers hit a career-high .323 with 44 RBI, 12 home runs, and 34 stolen bases. In two seasons with the Trojans, he hit 25 home runs and scored 139 runs.

Before his two seasons at Troy, Myers spent three seasons at LSU Eunice and played for the Bengals’ 2021 NJCAA national championship team.

He had a career .284 batting average at LSU Eunice and led the NJCAA with 58 stolen bases in 2022.

At Jennings, Myers was a standout two-sport athlete in baseball and basketball. He batted .571 in 2019 to earn American Press All-Southwest Louisiana Big Schools baseball team honors.
