John Michael “Mike” Hamersly passed away peacefully at his home in Madisonville at the age of 76, on July 7, 2024. He is predeceased by his parents, Everett Clyde and Mary Tregre Hamersly. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Rebecca Blum Hamersly, and his children, Heather Williams (Jeff), Erin Dauzat (Johnny), and Jeremy Drost; four beloved grandchildren, Hannah, Wade and Drew Williams, and Evan Dauzat; his sister, Margaret “Meg” Hamersly Kern, and countless in-laws. Michael was a long time resident of Baton Rouge, where his children were raised, and Lake Charles, before moving to Madisonville in 2017. Michael, an LSU Alum, retired from Ohmstede in 2010 after a long career as a mechanical engineer and plant manager. He loved golf and was an honest and loving man who was devoted to his family and grandchildren. He loved his wife, Rebecca, with his whole heart and put her first in his life. His dogs, Lucy and Bear, will miss him greatly. His dog, Copper, was waiting to meet him at The Pearly Gates. His dedication to family and community continues even after his passing, as he graciously donated his remains for the study of the rare brain disorder which afflicted him. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Mayo Clinic in his name are appreciated, to support research which may help others. A celebration of his life for immediate family will be held on his birthday in August.
