Willie “Billie” Smith

Willie “Billie” (Johnson) Smith, age 97, of Lake Charles, La. passed away on Monday, July 1, 2024. She was born on Dec. 17, 1926 in Lake Charles to Abra and Philemon Johnson.
Billie was a native of Hecker and Iowa High Graduate. She worked for Muller’s Department Store and Bell South. Billie later married Hammas and moved to Lake Charles where she was a proud member of Christ the King Catholic Church and the Ladies Altar Society. She absolutely loved and served her church and family. Billie will be remembered for having unconditional love for all.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Kenneth Smith (Darlene); sisters, Betty Chandler (Connie Mack), Leatrice Chandler (Speedy) and Peggy Trahan (Willard); grandchildren, Shona, Keith, Steven, Sheri and Troy; nine great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hammas Ray Smith; son, Rickey Dale Smith; and siblings, Una Mae Brasher, Aubrey Istre, Roland Johnson, Rena Richard, Mary Smith and Shirley Mistretta.
The family will welcome relatives and friends at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles on Friday, July 5, 2024 beginning at 8 a.m., a rosary will be prayed at 9 a.m. and the procession will leave for the church at 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church at 11 a.m followed by burial at Highland Memory Gardens. The Rev. Matthew Cormier will officiate at the services.
