A petition to recall Iowa Mayor Neal Watkins has begun circulating.
The Louisiana Secretary of State confirmed in an email to the American Press Thursday afternoon, June 13, that the petition paperwork was filed with their office.
The recall committee has 180 days to obtain the legally required number of signatures. After the petition has enough signatures, the Registrar of Voters will have 15 days to certify the signatures. If all signatures are certified, the petition will be sent to the governor to declare an election.
Watkins provided a comment to the American Press on Monday.
“Not sure you need my comment on something that people have a right to do. This is how our government works. Time will tell the truth and the truth is in short supply.”
The American Press has contacted Recall Committee Chairman Joey Mathis for comment.
