LeBlanc named to honor society

BATON ROUGE — Adri LeBlanc of DeQuincy was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society.

LeBlanc was initiated at Northwestern State University of Louisiana.

LeBlanc is among abut 25,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership.

Nichols named to dean’s list

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee State University is congratulating 5,475 students who appear on the dean’s list for the spring 2024 semester, including Quaid Nichols of Sulphur

Nichols is majoring in audio production.

To qualify for this distinction, an undergraduate student must maintain a current semester grade-point average of 3.5 or above and earn at least 12 semester hours.

Students working professionally

NATCHITOCHES — Twenty-four Northwestern State University Theatre and Dance students or recent alumni are performing across the country in professional theatre and dance jobs this summer.

The students are working for 16 different companies or facilities in nine states and Canada in a variety of performing, technical and business-related roles.

Working at Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky, Ohio, are Mackenzie Brown and Liz Bonnette, both of Lake Charles.

Leslie Israel of Sulphur will be working at Hershey Park in Hershey, Penn.

J. Cole Becton of Lake Charles was hired by Canterbury Summer Theatre in Michigan City, Ind.

COES recognizes local students

RUSTON — Louisiana Tech University’s College of Engineering and Science is pleased to announce its 2024 awards for outstanding juniors, seniors, and faculty.

The nominees are considered by a committee who applies metrics such as service, academics, participation in student organizations, and leadership to make the final selections. These individuals are recognized as the hardest-working, most engaged, and most academically gifted COES students in their classes.

Local students honored include:

Outstanding Juniors 2024 — James Cole, DeRidder, chemical engineering; and Cameron Guzzetta, Lake Charles, chemistry.

Outstanding Seniors 2024 — Emma-Bernadette Faul, Lake Charles, biomedical engineering;  and Christi Kruger, Lake Charles, biomedical engineering.

10 recognized as Sasol Scholars

The Sasol Scholars Program awarded a total of $100,000 in scholarships to 10 outstanding high school seniors graduating from Calcasieu Parish School Board high schools.

Recipients are Nevaeh Barriere, Courtney Bush, Austin Stroderd and Nicholas Porter, all of Sulphur High School; Daylin Brown and Unique Thomas, both of Washington-Marion Magnet High School; Gregor Nolan of Alfred M. Barbe High School; Janey Mueller and Amanda Sanders, both Sam Houston High School; and Landon Guidry of Westlake High School.

The Sasol Scholars Program supports graduating seniors at Sasol partner schools who are pursuing two- or four-year degrees. The students will receive $2,500 annually to assist with educational expenses, in addition to opportunities to network with professionals, tour Sasol’s operations and receive special consideration for Sasol internship and recruitment activities.
