The body of a man discovered in the waterway near Old Highway 90/Burnout Bridge in Vinton has been identified as 33-year-old Garrett Harrell Jr. of New Orleans.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kayla Vincent said the body was found at about 8:45 a.m. Tuesday morning and was recovered by their office’s Marine Division.

The investigation is in the preliminary stages, it is unknown at this time if foul play is involved, Vincent said.

The investigation is continuing.
