The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury is closing part of the Calcasieu River to recreational boat traffic due to high water. The closure, effective immediately, is from the U.S. 171 bridge north and east to the Jefferson Davis Parish line.

That portion of the Calcasieu River is in a major flood stage due to recent rains.

Numerous reports of boaters creating wakes that cause waves to enter homes and camps along the waterway prompted the action. The closure is to stop further damage to residences along the Calcasieu River.

The Executive Order enacting the closure is being enforced by the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Marine Division.

Boaters in other areas not affected by the closure are asked to be cautious in residential areas to limit damage to homes and camps along other waterways. Further closures are possible depending on conditions.
