Entergy asks Public Service Commission to approve rate hike for its customers

The Public Service Commission (PSC) will vote on Entergy’s proposal of a $1.9 billion plan for grid hardening on Friday. (An earlier article incorrectly stated the amount as $1.9 million.)
That could mean another rate hike for consumers.
The request was filed Monday, according to an email from Together Louisiana, a statewide grassroots network of more than 250 congregations and civic organizations across the state representing 200,000 people.
“Entergy is asking the LPSC to make a decision to raise rates the same week they’ve filed a public proposal for administrative efficiency,” said Erin Hansen, Together Louisiana. “Since ratepayers are on the hook, they deserve the opportunity to scrutinize the plan, understand what is included, develop clear judgment and participate in a public process of deliberation and opinion building.”
The meeting is open to the public but because of the short window, few probably know about it.
Together Louisiana said the request for $1.9 billion , and it will be passed onto the customer over five years. The Illuminator reported Entergy is seeking an $1.7 billion over three-years, beginning September 2024 which could translate roughly to a five percent increase on a typical customer’s bill.
Together Louisiana is asking that the PSC defer the vote, and has asked customers to reach out to their Commissioner. In Southwest Louisiana, that’s Mike Francis. Hansen said he is in favor of the proposal.
The number to call to reach Francis and Commissioners in other districts is -1-800-256-2397. The American Press reached out to Francis Thursday morning. The call has not been returned.
