Sowela Oakdale to host Homeschool Informational Session April 17

Sowela Oakdale will host a free Homeschool Informational Session at 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, for homeschool students and their families. Interested students will tour their program area of choice, meet faculty and learn about available programs, find out about scholarship and financial aid opportunities, and apply for admission or register for dual enrollment classes.
“The Oakdale Instructional Site is looking forward to welcoming area homeschool students to our open house and information session,” said Sowela Site Coordinator Magan Soileau. “Our programs empower students to learn new skills, earn degrees and enter the workforce as capable, dependable employees. We love watching our graduates excel and look forward to welcoming local homeschoolers as future Flying Tigers.

Sowela Oakdale offers five technical and academic programs, including Business Administration, Industrial Electrical Technology, Industrial Instrumentation Technology, Practical Nursing, and Welding. Culinary Arts and Criminal Justice are available online, as are free Adult Education classes.
New to Sowela Oakdale is the Industrial Electrical Technology degree. According to the Louisiana Workforce Commission, a typical salary for an industrial electrician is $32/hour with opportunities for overtime and an increase in salary with experience. The program prepares individuals to install, troubleshoot and repair wiring, electrical equipment and other electrical devices used in the industrial environment.
Sowela recently celebrated 85 years of educating Southwest Louisiana and was named the #1 community college in Louisiana for five years running from 2018-2023.
