Lucille Bernard Foreman

IOWA– Lucille Bernard Foreman, born in St. Martinville, La. on Jan. 16, 1925, daughter of the late Francois Eude and Eugenia (Borel) Bernard, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at age 99.

A graduate of Southwest Louisiana Institute, now ULL, Lucille taught school in Iowa and Lacassine, and later retired as Allen Parish Public Assistant supervisor. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Garden Club, Iowa AARP, St. Raphael Catholic Daughters, and the Altar Society. 

In her retirement, she was busy as ever as a tax preparer, notary public, alderwoman, gardener, religious coordinator, Lay Minister and a genealogist, having compiled and published the genealogy of the Foreman and Bernard families as far back as 30 generations. Lucille took pride in beautifying the Town of Iowa and enjoyed volunteering for the community. She and her late husband, Joe, traveled to all the 50 states, along with visiting eight European countries.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Asa Joseph “Joe” Foreman; infant child, Edwin Warren Foreman; siblings, Elden Bernard, Luna Miguez, and Roxie Cade. 

She is survived by her children, Benny Foreman (Shelley) of Lake Charles, Anne Corbello of Iowa,  Patsy Trahan (Chris) of Lake Charles;  Paul Foreman (Debbie) of Lake Charles; Ricky Foreman (Susi) of Lincoln, Mont.; Mike Foreman and Bruce Foreman, both of Iowa;  grandchildren, Andrea Harris, Malinda Foreman, Justin Foreman, Allison Dehner, Olivia Tichavsky, Stephen Corbello, Dr.  Mark Trahan, Gregory Trahan, Kyle Foreman, Jordan Foreman, Josh Foreman, Joe Foreman, Jeannie Johnson, Derick Foreman, Alex Foreman, and Danielle Fontenot, and 25 great-grandchildren. 

A Mass of Christian burial will be held in St. Raphael Catholic Church Friday, April 12, 2024, at 11 a.m. Rev. Anthony Fontenot, Celebrant. Burial will follow in Lacassine Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa. Visitation will begin in the church on Friday at 9 a.m. A rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Asa Joseph “Joe” and Lucille B. Foreman Scholarship Fund, McNeese State University Foundation, Post Office Box 91989, Lake Charles, LA 70609, or St. Raphael Catholic Church, Iowa, La., or the Salvation Army.

The family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale Lake Charles Memory Unit for their care and love of their mother over the last three years of her life.
