Augustine Morgan Shorten, age 100, died in Lake Charles surrounded by her daughters and a caregiver.

In 1923, she was born to Edward and Christian Morgan in Covington, La.  After moving to Lake Charles, she met and married Earl Shorten.

Augustine is survived by three daughters, Emily Shorten Hider and Linda Shorten of Lake Charles, Helen Wright and husband, Billie Wright of Westwego, La., and her only son, Clarence Edward Shorten and wife, Micaela Shorten of Navarre, Fla; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

The celebration of life will be Thursday, April 4, 2024 with viewing beginning at 10 a.m. at the Reeves Temple CME Chirch, 1400 Winterhalter Street.  Dismissal and burial will be in her hometown Covington, La. On April 5, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Doughty Chapel AME Church.
