Clevie Ann Fontenot

Clevie Ann Fontenot of Vinton, La., passed away in the early morning hours of Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024. Clevie was born on Dec. 23, 1940, and spent her early years in Oakdale, La. She moved to Vinton with her family after the death of her father in 1945.
She graduated from Vinton High School in 1958. She attended business school, then went to work for the town of Vinton. Upon her retirement from the city, she worked for Delta Downs for a number of years.
Clevie was a long time, active member of First Baptist Church in Vinton. She sang in the “Messiah Chorus” for many years. She played softball and coached the girls’ softball in Vinton for years. After a couple bouts of cancer, she became an avid supporter of the American Cancer Society and was active with “Relays for Life”.
She is preceded in death by her father, Sam Fontenot; mother, Erline Nichols; stepfather, C.C. Nichols, brothers, Sammy Fontenot and Eloi C. (Peco) Fontenot.
Survivors include her sister, Nan C. Trahan; brothers, Thomas Nichols (Louise), Jerry Nichols (Belinda) and Wayne Nichols (Charlene); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, sister-in-law, Sherry Fontenot and Gerry Fontenot, and many friends.
Private burial arrangements will be handled by Johnson and Robison Funeral Home. A private memorial for the family will be held at a later date.
The family wishes to thank the caretakers of High Hope Care Center where she resided for the last nine years as well as the doctors, nurses, and staff of West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital for their excellent care during her decline.
