Simon, Moss to talk about breaking into entertainment industry

Instead of sitting around dreaming of being the next Britney Spears, Reese Witherspoon or Tyler Perry – popular Louisiana celebrities – find out how to make it happen. Howie Simon can help. This  Sulphur native worked in the entertainment industry for over 35 years while living in Los Angeles. Hear about his experience, get his advice in an informative and entertaining program at the Sulphur Regional Library Wednesday, March 13, 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Accompanying Simon  (pronounced See-mown), will be Emily Moss Wilson, a Lake Charles native who has directed and produced Lifetime and Hallmark movies such as “Christmas in Mississippi,” “Drink” and “Danny Seduction.”

Simon doesn’t claim breaking into the industry is easy, but he does know the ropes, and he is still doing work for Los Angeles talent now that he’s back in Sulphur.

“It’s difficult to get started,” he said, “but if it’s in your heart…. It’s about knowing the right people, cultivating relationships and making sure you do your part.”

He said those who want to act should take lessons and participate in local theater. “Acting is like a muscle,” he said. “Working on it will develop it further. Did you know that even Meryl Streep, dubbed the best actress of her generation, still takes acting lessons? Every actor brings their own ingredients of the character to the table. You’re not acting. You’re reacting.”

A question-and-answer session will follow the program. Whether your dream is acting, writing, producing, directing, or more, you won’t want to miss out on this program.
