U.S. Congressman Higgins, R-Louisiana, issued the following statement following the Supreme Court’s unanimous ruling overriding attempts by Colorado and other states to remove Donald Trump from the 2024 presidential ballot.
“The Supreme Court’s opinion supports deep Constitutional principles and protects our electoral college process. We are a representative Republic, a union of 50 sovereign states,” Higgins said. “The citizenry of every state should firmly reject elected officials who would weaponize the privilege of statehood. This SCOTUS decision is righteous, but we’re not done. We the People will take whatever actions are necessary to protect our election systems.”
Following the Colorado Supreme Court’s ruling last December, Higgins introduced the Presidential Ballot Integrity Act, which would nullify the votes of an elector of a state if they should block an official nominee of a major political party from the Presidential ballot.
