No. 1 Rosepine survived a furious fourth-quarter rally by No. 4 Westlake to win 55-48 in the nonselect Division III semifinals on Wednesday in Hammond at the girls state basketball tournament.

Rosepine (30-5) will play Wednesday night’s No. 2 Amite (28-5) vs. No. 3 Doyle (30-4) winner in the final at 8 p.m. Saturday. The Eagles beat Amite 69-61 in last year’s championship game.

“It feels good,” Rosepine head coach Charles Kiely said. “You might not be able to tell by our look, but we have a bigger plan. We are very excited about it. We take it one game at a time and we have one more game to prep for.”

Senior Addison Fruge led the Eagles with a game-high 22 points plus seven rebounds. Fellow senior Kelly Norris almost had a triple-double with eight points, 17 rebounds and 11 assists, and Kailea Blankenbaker finished with 10 points.

Westlake, which was in the semifinals for a second time in program history, had three players score in double figures, led by Maddy Guillory’s 16 points. Tierra Bargeman added 11 points and Gabby Guillory finished with 12 and eight rebounds.

The Eagles, who won their 21st consecutive game, led 45-28 after Fruge scored on a fast break just before the end of the third quarter and scored again to open the fourth quarter before the Rams kicked off a 10-0 run to get back into the game.

Guillory hit a free throw and Bargeman scored on a putback when Guillory missed the second shot to pull the Rams within 45-38 with 5:14 left in the game.

Westlake (24-6) shot 50 percent from the field in the first half and trailed the Eagles 15-12 after the first quarter but were slowed by 10 turnovers. Rosepine closed out the first half on a 10-0 run to stake a 33-19 halftime lead.
