Roosevelt Carter Jr., 69, departed this life on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2024, in Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, La. He was born Oct. 4, 1954, to Roosevelt Carter Sr., and Clara Mae Carter in Lake Charles, La.
He was called June by family and friends. He completed early education in Lake Charles, La., and proudly graduated from W.O. Boston High School in 1972. He served his country in the United States Army from 1973 to 1976 with an honorable discharge. He married his childhood sweetheart, Cheryl, and to this union a son was born, Terrall Carter.
He worked construction, particulary carpentry and maintenance. He loved working with his hands which also included roofing. He enjoyed fishing, watching westerns, eating and spending time with family.
He leaves to cherish his memories his estranged wife, Helen Carter; long-time friend, Belinda Holliday; four children, Terrall Carter, Delores Guidry, Tanya Holliday and Robert Cooper; his siblings, Christopher Alfred of Lake Charles, La., Terrill Alfred of Reeves, La., Freda Reed of Lake Chrles, La., Nuchelle Cotlong of Houston, Texas, and Teressa Basile of Yigo, Guam; six grandchildren, Shaunda Jackson, Kayla Carter, Malaika Taylor, Terrell Jr., Savanna Carter and Robert Guidry; 15 great-grandchildren and and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roosevelt Sr. and Clara Mae Carter; his grandparents, Clarence and Earline Carter and Maggie Taylor.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024, at 11 a.m. and funeral Service at 1 p.m., at King’s Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Combre Memorial Park under the direction of King’s Funeral Home.
