The U.S. House voted Thursday to pass H.R. 7176, the Unlocking our Domestic LNG Potential Act, which would reverse President Biden’s indefinite permitting pause on American LNG exports.

The bill, however, is unlikely to take effect. It would have to be passed by the Senate, which is controlled by the Democrats and it would then have to be signed into law by President Biden.

U.S. Congressman Clay Higgins, R-La., co-sponsored the legislation.

“South Louisiana is the epicenter of America’s LNG industry, with multiple export facilities in Calcasieu and Cameron parishes. These facilities are major job providers and help supply clean energy products on a global scale,” Higgins said.

“Since Biden took office, our nation has seen high energy prices that are crushing American families and empowering foreign adversaries. America has the potential to lead the world in clean, innovative LNG technologies. However, the Biden administration cannot continue to weaponize the federal government against American energy producers. We must move forward with domestic energy projects for the sake of Louisiana, America, and indeed the entire world. My office will continue to work at the federal level to enact policies that increase domestic energy production.”

Speaker Mike Johnson, also from Louisiana, released the following statement after the House passed H.R. 7176.

“When America leads the world in producing and exporting energy, America’s economy is strengthened, its security is ensured, and all our allies benefit as well. However, since his first day in office, President Biden has targeted our domestic energy producers and actively undermined America’s efforts to be energy independent.

The President’s most recent decision – to pause pending natural gas export terminals – is a setback for American workers and our overseas partners, and a victory for Vladimir Putin and radical climate activists. “Today, the House passed the Unlocking our Domestic LNG Potential Act to depoliticize the LNG approval process and unleash American energy producers from the bonds of Biden’s subversive bureaucratic overreach.”
