Travel back 5,000 years to a magical, ancient and divine pre-Communist China. Shen Yun, the classical Chinese dance company and symphony orchestra will offer a performance, sound and story like no other at the Lake Charles Event Center Rosa Hart Theatre on Tuesday, Feb. 20, at 7:30 p.m.
“Like no other” is not hyperbole.
Shen Yun, which means “divine being, dancing,” will bring to life the lost, spiritual culture of the East.
The group is based in New York. Artists are from all over the world, but not from China.
Shen Yun can’t perform there and many escaped ongoing persecution.
This performance reclaims the lost heritage of a time when people sought harmony among Heaven, Earth and humankind, and followed the course of nature, before 1949 and the Chinese Communist Party saw this spiritual heritage as a threat.
That’s not the only thing that makes this performing arts company and its performance so unique. The audience will see classical Chinese dance in its purest form, flips and gentle elegance, one of the most athletic art forms in the world. Costumes will be stunning, vibrant, bringing back the styles of China’s different dynasties, regions and ethnic groups.
The Shen Yun Orchestra is the first in the world to permanently combine classical Western and Eastern instruments.
Every year Shen Yun features a brand-new performance. Don’t miss this one.
Ticket prices start at $80. For more information, call 877-663-7469.
