Twenty-two years ago, local dentist Harry Castle learned of some area colleagues who were going on a dental-service mission trip outside the U.S. That got Castle thinking. He was inspired to do some mission work right here in Lake Charles, where he and his staff would offer a full day of free dental service, first come, first served, to adults with no dental insurance at his Lake Charles office. "The first year was a big success," he said, so it has continued each year. He holds the event on Valentine's Day he said, "Because that's a day people are supposed to be special." With all hands on deck at his office, Castle estimated that by the end of the day, between 150 to 200 people will have come received extractions, filling and cleanings at the clinic.
