John Robert Patin

John Patin, 77, of Boonton, N.J. passed away Feb. 3, 2024. John was born in Louisiana to the late Robert and Marie Patin. He grew up in Lake Charles, La. and has lived in Boonton for 50 years.
John graduated from Landry High School and later from McNeese State College in Lake Charles with a BS degree in statistics. He then went to Florida State University where he obtained a Master’s Degree in statistics and did further graduate studies.
John worked in the pharmaceutical industry for 33 years, starting at Sandoz (now Novartis) where he began as a statistician and later became director of the statistical programming group. He retired from Sandoz/Novartis after 25 years then worked at Celgene for eight years as Vice President of Statistics and Statistical Programming. John loved the outdoors and was an avid bicyclist, regularly commuting to work by bicycle, an 18 mile round trip. He also enjoyed kayaking, hiking, backpacking, and fishing. He was a 30 year member of the Deer Lake Club in Boonton Township, NJ where he kayaked daily.
John is survived by his wife of 53 years, Diana (Williams) Patin; two children, Andrew and Sarah; two grandsons, Hunter and John Harvey; three sisters, Louise Patin, Annette DesOrmeaux, and Renee Pettaway, and by many other loving family members and friends.
A funeral mass will be held on Feb. 13, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Catholic Church, 19 Birch St., Boonton, NJ. Interment will be held privately by the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Kiwanis Ambulance Service of Boonton.
