U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) says the Biden administration “screwed up” the roll out of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)  and by freezing development of future Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) export terminals.

On Wednesday, Cassidy held his weekly press conference with reporters after meeting with multiple college presidents and administration. “The greatest concern is that some students will skip college because they don’t know if they can afford it or not,” he said. FAFSA is an application process that allows students to apply for grants, work-study opportunities and loans.

Cassidy said instead of keeping the FAFSA rollout on track, Biden has tied up “time and resources” to “transfer student debt away from those who willingly took out the loans and transferred the responsibility to those who didn’t attend school, paid back loans or otherwise paid for school.”

Cassidy called Biden’s decision to temporarily pause LNG export terminal development as “disastrous policy no matter how you cut it.”

Cassidy and 15 Republican colleagues have introduced legislation to “take the politics out of permitting,” he said.

This would allow the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to approve or deny any applications for the citing, construction, expansion and operation of LNG facilities as opposed to this being under the “political dictatorship” of the Department of Energy (DOE), reaffirming his commitment to stop Biden’s war on American energy, energy workers and allies who depend on the US for their energy and economic security, he said.

Biden’s freeze on LNG will halt all projects awaiting permitting. That includes local projects such as Venture Global’s CP2, Energy Tranfer’s Lake Charles LNG and Commonwealth’s Calcasieu Pass.

Venture Global CP2 is the second Venture Global project situated on the Calcasieu Pass Channel  where it meets the Gulf of Mexico, a 546-acre site in Cameron, La. It was set to become the nation’s largest export facility. Energy Transfer chose not to share information about its proposed facility or permitting phase. Commonwealth would be a new export terminal project, the third to be located on Calcasieu Pass Channel almost at the mouth of The Gulf in Cameron.

Biden’s freeze does not impact Tellurian’s Driftwood LNG in Sulphur, Sempra’s Cameron LNG in Hackberry, Cheniere’s Sabine Pass near the Louisiana Texas border in Cameron parish nor Venture Global’s initial Calcasieu Pass facility.
