Most of the high school basketball district races in Southwest Louisiana will be settled this week.

Of 18 area districts, only two titles are locked up. The Singer boys (10-13, 6-1) are the champions in District 4-C, while the Lake Arthur girls secured the 5-2A championship with two games left and are on a 13-game winning streak.

The girls regular season ends on Saturday while the boys finish on Feb. 17.

Boys

District 3-3A

Iowa (24-4, 5-0) can take the outright district title with a win over St. Louis Catholic (14-9, 2-2) today.

Lake Charles College Prep would need to win its last two district games over Jennings (14-11, 2-2) and Kinder (9-21, 0-4 and have Iowa lose today to force another shared title.

5-2A

Vinton (17-5, 6-2) owns a one-game lead on Welsh (13-11, 5-3) and Lake Arthur (12-11, 5-3) but must face both this week. Vinton travels to Welsh today and hosts Lake Arthur on Friday. The first time around, Vinton slipped by Welsh 68-64 and beat Lake Arthur 66-55 on the road.

5-1A

Hamilton Christian has found its groove since the new year began, winning nine of their last 10. With a seven-game win streak, the Warriors can wrap up the title with two must win games against the next two teams in the district. They host East Beauregard (9-13, 4-1) tonight and travel to Merryville (13-12, 3-1) on Friday.

6-B

Lacassine has a chance to avenge its lone district loss and win a share of the district championship, but the Cardinals first have to get through Midland (15-12, 3-4) today. Lacassine beat Midland 83-78 on Jan. 19, and will travel to J.S. Clark, which beat Lacassine 59-56 on Jan. 23 on Friday.

5-C

Four teams have a chance at the district title. Fairview (11-16, 1-1) and Reeves (12-15, 1-1), who play each other today at Fairview, would need to win out to claim the title. Fairview travels to Plainview (16-12, 2-1) on Friday, while Reeves hosts Northside Christian on Friday (9-19, 0-2).

Girls

3-4A

LaGrange and Leesville will play for the title tonight in Lake Charles. LaGrange (18-7, 4-0) has won four consecutive games since a 10-point loss to select Division II No. 1 Lafayette Christian on Jan. 12, while the Wampus Cats (20-9, 4-0) have won nine of their last 10.

3-3A

South Beauregard (22-7, 5-0) have the shortest path to the title. The Lady K’s have an 11-game win streak and need to win a top-four showdown at home Friday against Westlake to take the title. Westlake (21-4, 4-0) needs to beat Kinder (13-12, 0-4) tonight and the Lady K’s to take the trophy.

4-2A

Presuming both teams win tonight, Friday’s second meeting between defending state championships will settle the title. Rosepine (25-5, 8-0) beat Oakdale (23-6, 7-1) 75-71 in double overtime in the first meeting on Jan. 23. An Oakdale win would force a split title.

5-1A

East Beauregard (17-11, 5-0) needs to cool down a hot Hamilton Christian (21-5, 4-0) team in Lake Charles today to win its second consecutive title, while the Warriors, winners of 11 straight, need to beat the Trojans and beat Merryville (18-11, 3-1) on the road Friday to spoil the Trojans’ repeat bid.

4-C

If Singer (10-13, 6-1) and Starks (15-7, 5-1) win their remaining district games this week, they will share the title. They split in the two meetings with each winning at home by double digits.

5-C

Fairview (26-7, 2-0), the No. 2 team in nonselect Division V, can win the title with wins over Reeves (11-15, 1-1) and Plainview (15-16, 3-0).
