Chief Deputy Chris Ivey of the Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office, said deputies were dispatched to the area of La. 26 south, near La. 1126 around 5 a.m. Wednesday after a female reported that she had been stabbed by her boyfriend.

Deputies responding intercepted the victim, who was being transported in a civilian vehicle. She was airlifted to a Lafayette hospital.

Deputies searched the area, but were unable to local the suspect who was identified as Charles.

Deputies were later displaced to Charles’ mother’s residence on Andrus Cove Cemetery Road, Ivey said.

When deputies arrived they found Charles had kicked in the rear door and was inside the residence where he surrendered to deputies.

Charles has 12 previous arrests, including an incident last May in which he allegedly beat, sexually assaulted and strangled a woman he was holding at knifepoint before trying to run over her and two others after she escaped.
