Katherine Ann Farrar Glasser

Katherine Ann Farrar Glasser, 70, of Columbia, died on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024. Born in Lake Charles, La., on Sept. 17, 1953, she was a daughter of the late R.W. “Tom” Farrar and Ann Mills Carr. Ms. Glasser was raised in Lake Charles, La., and was a proud graduate of Lake Charles High School. She later earned her BSRN from LSU. She would spend 10 years as a registered nurse in Baton Rouge, La., until becoming a mother. Her greatest pride and joy was nurturing her children and being a homemaker. Ms. Glasser loved playing with her grandchildren, cooking healthy meals for her family, and cherished her relationship with her children above all else. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Columbia.
Survivors include her children, Ann Louise Glasser Wright (James “Jim” A. Wright Jr.) of Charlotte, N.C., Rachel Elizabeth Glasser (Gudmunder Mar Gunnarsson) of Seltjarnarnes, Iceland, and Paul Andrew Glasser (fiancé, Christine Chang) of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; four grandchildren, Evangeline Rose Wright, James A. Wright III, Frida Charlotte Rakelardottir, and Ruth Ann Wright; two sisters, Gail O’Meara, of Lake Charles, La. and Cindy Royalty, of Simpsonville, S.C.; best friend, Caroline Brickle (Mike); as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Miles.
The funeral service for Mrs. Glasser will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 30, in the Smith Chapel of First Presbyterian Church, 1420 Washington Street, Columbia, with the Rev. David H. Lauten officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in Jackson Hall of the church. A private burial will be held in Elmwood Cemetery.
