No. 1 J.S. Clark surges in second quarter to beat Lacassine

LACASSINE — Lacassine held an advantage early against the No. 1 team in nonselect Division V on Tuesday. But J.S. Clark started to pull away in the second quarter and rolled to a 57-26 win.

J.S. Clark (18-3, 3-0) won its eighth consecutive game.

Lacassine (14-14, 0-3) senior Hannah Fontenot hit a 3-pointe on a pass from freshman Addison Hollier to give the Cardinals a 4-0 lead with 6:28 left in the first quarter.

Two minutes later, another Cardinal freshman, Allie LeBlanc, dribbled along the baseline and hit a layup for a 6-4 lead. But J.S. Clark used two big runs to take control of the game.

The first was a 9-0 surge. It started with a three from Tristanie Albert with 4:17 left in the first quarter, giving the Bulldogs their first lead and one they wouldn’t give up. Taylor Barnaba sparked the next run, 12-0, with a pair of layups off steals. The run took less than two minutes and gave J.S. Clark a 27-10 lead.

Albert led a trio of J.S. Clark players with 15 points. Erianna Ned finished with 13 points, and Barnaba added 12 points, five rebounds, six steals and four assists.

Fontenot was Lacassine’s top scorer with nine points.

The Cardinals lost their fourth consecutive game and sixth over their last nine as they struggled with turnovers (29).
