Hamilton Christian girls open district with dominant win

Hamilton Christian kept the pressure on Basile early in its District 5-1A opener to build up a big lead and cruised to a 78-11 win at home on Thursday.
Senior point guard Mckenzie Deville led the way with 21 points, 12 assists, seven steals and four rebounds, while Kayla Hardin had 14 points, five assists, three steals and seven rebounds.
The Warriors (16-5, 1-0), who won their sixth consecutive game, outscored Basile 36-0 in the first quarter while scoring their first six points off turnovers. Hamilton scored 16 of its first-quarter points off turnovers.
Kayla Harding got a steal to end the Bearcats’ opening possession and passed to Mckenzie Deville for a layup. Deville followed with a pair of steals of her own and two more fastbreaks. Deville scored 14 of her game-high 21 points in the first quarter.
Hamilton shot 59.3 percent in the first quarter as they won for the ninth time in 10 games.
The Warriors hit four 3-pointers in the opening quarter and finished with nine, while spreading the ball around offensively with 10 of 11 players scoring at least three points.
Hamilton led 51-4 at halftime.
Harley Matte led Basile (8-10, 0-1) with five points.
