“Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies. The heart of her husband safely trusts her; so he will have no lack of gain. She does him good and not evil all the days of her life.”
Proverbs 31:10-12
Judy Arlene Brossette went home to be with Jesus after winning her victory over death on Jan. 12, 2024. After a hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer, she died at age 62 in her home, surrounded by family and her best friend, Patti Cryer.
Judy was a long-time Sulphur girl. In high school, she was a Toreador. Later she worked at Cal-Cam Hospital and had a 25 year career as the “blonde lady at the post office.” She loved to work in the nursey at church. She loved to play with babies. Her love of babies was God-ordained; Judy never developed a sense of smell and would willingly change diapers.
But beyond the smiling face seen around Sulphur by both adults and babies, Judy was a kind soul. She loved to talk, and she understood the impact she would have every time she opened her mouth. She guided her children to “speak life” into others. Judy practiced that guidance herself. And when she couldn’t, she worked hard to hold her tongue.
She leaves behind her husband of 40 years, Tim Brossette. She and Tim raised two sons, but the best example of a living a Godly life they showed for their boys was to love each other. For every up and down in life, Tim and Judy were in lock-step. And In their last year together, they grew closer than they had ever been. It was no surprise to Judy, who 40 years ago “saw his heart” and had found him to be a good man.
She also leaves behind two sons, Ryan Brossette and wife, Lauren, of DeQuincy and Jeremy Brossette and wife, Brittany, of Sulphur; five grandchildren, Nicholai, Kynz, Parker, Andrew, and Jules; her mother, Betty Bridges, of Ruston; her brothers, Wayne Bridges and wife, Stacy, of Ruston and Gary Bridges and wife, Christy, of Zwolle, and their children, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceding her in death was her father, J.C. Bridges, and her niece, Jennifer Bridges.
Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19, in New Hope Baptist Church, 543 Marcantel Rd in DeQuincy. The Revs. Lamar Huffman, Charles Gibbs, and Wayne Bridges will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Craig Cryer, Mark Martinez, Mark Penton, Lynn Brossette, Jason White, and Craig Cochran. Visitation is from 9 a.m. until the time of service Friday in the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you hug somebody that you love and tell them you love them because life is short.
