Dangerous wind chills in the single digits are likely Tuesday along and north of Interstate 10.

“Sustained winds from the north at 15 to 25 mph early Tuesday morning will create blustery conditions across the region,” said Nick Slaughter, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Lake Charles office.

The minimum wind chill forecast for Lake Charles and Cameron is 11 degrees, 6 degrees in Oakdale and 5 degrees in Leesville.

A hard freeze warning is in effect 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Tuesday as temperatures are expected to fall into the low- to mid-20s across the region.

“Temperatures will remain below freezing for 10 to 20 hours,” Slaughter said.

Lake Charles is not expected to reach above-freezing temperatures until about 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

“Despite slightly warmer wind chill values, Wednesday morning’s temperatures are expected to be the coldest,” Slaughter said with Lake Charles forecast to experience below-freezing temperatures for about 15 hours.
