A line of strong thunderstorms will be possible after midnight tonight and into Friday morning over much of Louisiana.

National Weather Service Lake Charles Storm Warning Coordinator Doug Cramer said large hail, damaging wind gusts and a couple of tornadoes will be possible.

“Rainfall amounts aren’t going to be a whole lot, generally about a quarter of an inch or less, but we do have a wind advisory,” Cramer said. “The strongest winds we’re expecting will be after 3 a.m. to about 3 p.m.”

He said some 40 mph gusts are possible.

Cramer said next week’s arctic air mass is “highly likely” to happen and his “best guess forecast” for Tuesday morning is lows around 26 degrees in Lake Charles with the city expecting about a 9-hour time frame of experiencing below-freezing temperatures.

“Wednesday is going to be a little bit colder, believe it or not,” he said.

Wednesday morning’s temperatures could reach 17 degrees in Lake Charles with the city in a possible 13-hour time frame of experiencing below-freezing temperatures.

Cramer said it’s “too far out to get super confident and detailed” with the chances of ice on area roads.
