Gators control boards, beat Iowa 58-54

LaGrange ruled the boards on Tuesday and kept its hot streak going with a 58-54 win over Iowa at LaGrange High School.
The Gators (12-4) scored 21 second-chance points off offensive rebounds to two for the Yellow Jackets.
Forwards Kylei Leblanc and Cierra Amos patrolled the paint for the Gators with each posting a double-double. Leblanc had 17 points and 15 rebounds, and Amos had 12 points and 10 boards.
LaGrange scored at least six points off offensive boards in the second, third and fourth quarter to extend its season-best win streak to six games.
Iowa’s (18-3) Kamylle Jones nailed a 3-pointer 20 seconds into the third quarter for a 26-24 lead, but the Gators retook the lead on back-to-back putbacks by Alexis and Leblanc.
LaGrange went on a 15-2 run to extend its lead to 50-35 with 5:30 left in the game before Iowa made a late run. Iowa nearly erased the double-digit lead and got within four points twice in the final 30 seconds. Jaya Gradney, who scored a game-high 21 points, hit a jumper with 27 seconds left to pull the Yellow Jackets within four points, 56-52, and again, 58-54, on Jones’ layup and free throw with 14 seconds left.
The Gators trailed by as many as six points in the first quarter, and used a 6-0 run to take its first lead. Amos scored in the paint to cut the deficit to one, and Marleigh Alexis scored the go-ahead bucket off an offensive board.
